Hatch is seeking an Pyrometallurgy Student for the Winter 2025 work term. Reporting to Metals, Pyrometallurgy group you will support offices globally working from our Mississauga office location.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team environment, with focus on assisting the process team on client projects and internal technology development work.
  • Assist with development of design documents, calculations, and mass and energy balances.
  • Assist with interpretation and processing of simulation and field data.
  • Assist with process definition and selection, facility layout, hazard studies, and cost estimation.
  • Manage and perform other tasks within the scope, schedule, and budget provided by the process engineer.
  • Apply problem solving skills pertaining to various project and internal tasks.
  • Preparation of project reports, presentations, and calculations.

 

You bring to the role:

  • Completed the 2nd year of a four-year degree program (B.Eng. / B.A.Sc.) in engineering, with focus / major in materials, metallurgical, chemical, or process engineering.
  • Strong academic record (top quintile)
  • Interest / experience in topics such as:
    • Pyrometallurgy / high temperature process metallurgy
    • Decarbonization and process transformation
    • Ferrous and non-ferrous extractive metallurgy
    • Applied thermodynamics and heat and mass transfer
    • Process modeling, simulation, and digital application
    • Project management and engineering consulting
  • Basic understanding of ferrous metallurgy value chain and principles of extractive metallurgy.
  • Basic understanding of concepts of heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, and metallurgical / chemical processes to assist in the process modeling and design of process plants.
  • Ability to effectively utilize written and oral communication skills to communicate with clients and team members.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
