The Senior Health & Safety Advisor will be a key Senior Role within the Western Canada Health & Safety Department reporting directly to the Regional Manager . Their key focus will be client projects scope to ensure successful delivery alongside office-based compliance responsibilities. The portfolio includes major projects across Metals, Minerals, Energy and Infrastructure projects.
The Senior Health and Safety Advisor will receive directions from Senior Safety Personnel and Project as well as Technical Managers. The individual will be a key stakeholder when assessing contractor safety performance pre award as well as being critical in the successful mobilization post award as well as focal point throughout key projects. The incumbent must be adaptable, self-motivated, can work both independently as well as in a team environment, and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication.
There will be a requirement for regular planned travel throughout a diverse project portfolio in Western Canada
Responsibilities Include:

Provide advice, strategies and problem solving on all health and safety issues to achieve our goal of “no harm”.

Promote a culture in where health and safety are a value that will never be compromised.

Implement the organization’s health and safety policy, safety management planning requirements and standards aligned with the Hatch safety management system and delivery approach.

Prepare Safety Management Plans for projects.

Manage the identification of health and safety training needs for personnel, including project staff and contractors.

Delivery and rollout safety training to include competency and behavior-based leadership training.

Provide assistance in all pre-contract, tender assessment and contract administration for projects in relation to health and safety requirements and expectations.

Review and approve contractor’s safety management plans and safe operating procedures before work commences.

Define local statutory and regulatory requirements and communicate with the Regional Health and Safety Manager and Project Management.

Compile project specific health and safety project setup documentation aligned with the Hatch corporate health and safety approach.

Lead and facilitate the hazard analysis and risk assessment process across project disciplines

Lead and participate in incident investigations and reporting in areas to which assigned by the Regional Health and Safety Manager.

Measure the implementation of corrective actions from health and safety audits and incident investigations.

Develop, implement and coordinate the process of health and safety reporting for projects assigned by the Regional Health and Safety Manager.

Prepare, implement and review office and project emergency response plans assigned by the Regional Health and Safety Manager.

Assist the Regional Health and Safety Manager with implementing and managing office and project audit programs.

Measure compliance with rules, safety management plans and health and safety procedures.

Perform duties as stipulated in the Project Safety Management Plan and as directed by the Regional Health and Safety Manager.

Act as delegate to the Regional Health and Safety Manager as required
Qualifications:

10+ years’ experience in health and safety with experience in major capital projects preferably across multiple sectors.

Lead Auditor in a relevant ISO Standard
-
Incident Investigation formal training in a recognized methodology

Excellent interpersonal skills.

A high level of computer skills.

A high level of organizational skills.

A passion for continual improvement of project health and safety performance.

Ability to lead and motivate office and project teams in health and safety.

Must be willing to travel.

B.S. Safety Management or related field is Preferred.
-
Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is Preferred.

Member of a recognized health and safety professional organization is Preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Must be able to work in a team environment.
