The Hatch Metals team is seeking a Metallurgist with recent experience in refractory gold or copper Pressure Oxidation to join its process design team. The HPM group is a multidiscipline team of engineers and designers who execute world-class and complex autoclave technology-based projects in the mining and metals sector. The group’s metallurgical staff have specialized expertise in areas of pilot plant management and scale-up, process modelling, and equipment sizing fundamentals as applied to autoclave processes over a wide range of metals such as gold, copper, nickel, arsenic, rare earths, aluminum and uranium. Reporting to the High Pressure Metallurgy Lead Process Engineer, you will support projects locally and globally based out of our Mississauga Head Office location.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading process design on studies and projects;
  • Interpretation of laboratory and pilot results, and assisting clients in the development of test work programs;
  • Development of flow sheets, design criteria, review of mass, energy and water balances;
  • Equipment sizing and communication with vendors to ensure that equipment selected meets process needs;
  • Working with a project team, including development of layouts, assistance with equipment and piping selection, and development of process control philosophies;
  • Developing materials of construction design basis for the process facilities;
  • Assisting mechanical engineers in preparing specifications and executing technical bid evaluations;
  • Interaction with other Consultants and Clients as required by the project;
  • Assistance with development of capital and operating costs;
  • Report writing for studies;
  • Generation of operating manuals, and participation in plant start-ups and commissioning where required.

 

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be a licensed professional engineer
  • Degree in metallurgical or chemical engineering from a recognized university
  • 8 plus years’ experience in a modern refractory gold or copper Pressure Oxidation operation.
  • Applicants must be proficient with all MS Office products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel..  
  • Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects
  • Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
