Site Health and Safety Advisor

Project H&S Manager
1. Summary
Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join our team at the Craig Mine site in Sudbury Ontario working on the Onaping Depth Project.
The ideal candidate will have experience in underground mining and surface construction, building a safety culture that will support our goal of achieving no harm. Working within the parameters of the Project H&S program you will work with the existing team to monitor, coach and improve the Project safety performance. This position reports to the Project H&S Manager and functionally to Hatch’s Regional Manager, Health & Safety.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice, strategies and problem solving to Project personnel on all health and safety issues to achieve the goal of ‘no harm’.
- Together with Project Management Team, implement the Project Health and Safety Policy, Safety Management Plan and standards.
- Maximize time in the field to assess risks, inspect safety protocols, and monitor compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Provide assistance in pre-award tender assessment and contract administration in relation to health and safety requirements and expectations.
- Review and approve contractor’s safety management plans and safe operating procedures before work commences.
- Define local statutory and regulatory requirements and communicate to personnel engaged in the Project.
- Lead and facilitate the health and safety hazard analysis and risk assessment process across all disciplines and functional groups.
- Participate in incident investigations and reporting in areas assigned
- Develop, implement and coordinate incident reporting, analysis and statistical returns.
- Measure the implementation of corrective actions from health and safety audits and incident investigations.
- Ensure health and safety indicators and reviews are planned, implemented and reported.
- Coordinate and submit weekly health and safety leading indicator and information reports.
- Review emergency response plans.
- Participate in the health and safety audit program.
- Perform duties as stipulated in the Project Safety Management Plan and as directed by the Project Health & Safety Manager.
3. Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- 8 to 10 years’ experience in underground mining health and safety
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A high level of computer skills
- A high level of organizational skills
- A passion for continual improvement of health and safety performance
- Ability to lead and motivate on-site teams in health and safety.
Preferred
- Member of a recognized health and safety professional organization (Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Construction Safety Officer (CSO)).
- Formal health and safety qualifications degree or diploma
