As part of our Shared Services group, comprised of Finance, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Commercial, Legal and Facilities, we support the business achieve their goals through a range of strong technical capabilities. We ensure delivery of services through the skills of our people, methodologies, and systems.
 

 

The corporate writer and editor supports Hatch’s key strategic priorities, creating meaningful, strategic written materials for internal global target audiences and external audiences, that communicate key messages, support corporate initiatives, and carry global themes in our corporate style and tone of voice as part of our communications and engagement campaigns. The corporate writer is an experienced communicator who works closely with business leadership to quickly understand, research, write, edit, and proofread various types of content that comply with our corporate standards.

This role is a key part of the larger Marketing and Communications team and is ideal for an experienced, passionate storyteller who is looking for new challenges and expanded opportunities. This is a 12-month contract position.

 

Duties

 

The corporate writer and editor will:

  • Report to the global corporate communications lead
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other marketing and communications resources in the development of written materials
  • Rapidly develop an understanding of our organization, business culture, vision, mission, and values to convey the essence of our business to others, both internally and externally
  • Work closely with key business leadership to develop drafts of written material, organizing thoughts and ideas into cohesive
  • Create thought leadership content, including articles, blogs, white papers, and presentations communications, and obtaining sign-off from final approvers, leading end-to-end processes
  • Create written content for marketing materials including our standard publications, annual review, advertising, press releases, corporate brochures, technical articles, and other client-facing materials
  • Review, edit, and proofread a variety of copy and campaign material, as required
  • Fact check and verify authenticity and accuracy of content
  • Liaise with creative team for effective visuals to support campaigns and communications
  • Be a team player who can effectively operate in a collaborative work environment and manage the life cycle of a document from inception through to completion, within established deadlines.

 

Requirements of the role:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related field (English, Communications, or Journalism)
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
  • Experience in developing and editing technical content for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Impeccable copyediting and proofreading abilities and expert grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills, with exceptional attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and experience using the Chicago Manual of Style and Canadian Press Style
  • Project management skills with ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in authoring software including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills
  • Curiosity to know more and a mindset centered on innovation for continuous improvement
  • Solid understanding of communications best practices and proven ability to develop, project manage, and oversee multiple internal and/or external communications initiatives of significant complexity
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A passion for storytelling and superb conversational, evocative writing skills to tell meaningful stories through simple, digestible communications.
