Project Engineer (Hatch Associates Consultants, Inc., New Haven, CT): Hands-on engineering work with commuter trains, including investigations of equipment malfunctions, modifications and written reporting findings. Conduct fleet inspections as part of a service-life extension program. Review of rail maintenance shop layouts and management. Review railcar design submittals and prepare detailed written descriptions of review findings. Participate in formal design review meetings and technical working sessions with other senior staff. Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment and prepare detailed written descriptions of review findings. Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits. Prepare reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern. Witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, environmental, electrical, and functional testing. Participate in vehicle acceptance testing, to include ride quality, braking performance and noise/vibration levels.

 

Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field, and 4 years of post-baccalaureate related work experience. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field, and 3 years of related work experience.

 

Of the required experience, must have 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering. 

 

Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

 

- Electro-mechanical and structural engineering; and
- Mechanical engineering in Kinematics and Dynamics, Materials, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, or HVAC.

 

Of the required experience, must have 1 year of experience in each of the following:

 

- Utilizing Autodesk and AutoCAD software; and
- Utilizing Finite Element Software, including ANSYS, Abaqus, Dyna, Adina, or Radioss.

 

Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable. 

 

Travel: Domestic travel required up to 20%.
