Hatch, a global full-service engineering consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Project Manager with technical/engineering consulting experience to join the team in New York City. You have strong electric utility sector relationships, ideally having worked in the utility sector, or within the distribution system of a large infrastructure asset (rail, ports, etc..) providing commissioning and/or operations oversight services to distribution system assets. You are familiar with current grid modernization technologies, a working understanding of asset management programs on electrical distribution and/or substation assets, and experience managing projects that range from $50,000 studies to $10m+ system implementations. You must be capable of taking full ownership of a project’s delivery while concurrently sourcing and securing new work in the electric utility sector, with a focus on the Northeast USA.  As the regional team grows, there is an opportunity for this position to become the team lead.


Hatch is expanding activities in its electric utility business, which leads the deployment of a wide range of services for distribution, transmission, and generation utilities such as asset management programs, grid modernization initiatives, integrated resource plan development, and complex distribution engineering and DER modeling & integration projects. Hatch also utilizes its experience in advanced analytical risk-based decision-making tools, business process improvement, and asset condition & asset management program maturity assessments to help utilities prioritize investments that drive right-sized solutions for our client’s unique needs.


The Project Manager will participate in managing the delivery of a significant electrical distribution system project that Hatch is currently engaged on, which will require regular travel to the project site (within the New York City limits), the client’s office (in Midtown), and the Hatch New York City office (in Midtown).  


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Min of 15 years of experience working with distribution system assets
  • Experience successfully leading larger projects / multi-year programs with $5m+ labour only budgets (ie. not including capital) on electrical infrastructure system installations / upgrades
  • Experience in distribution system design, commissioning, operations, asset management, and capital planning
  • Experience helping utilities resolve some of their challenges of needing to upgrade aging infrastructure to accommodate increasing DER penetration and prosumer interest, while under increasing regulatory burdens and tighter budgets
  • Experience managing, directing, and mentoring junior and intermediate engineers
  • Consultant mindset

  • Additional Credentials
    • MBA or MS in Electrical Engineering / Power Systems
    • NY State Professional Engineer (PE)
