Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Rail Vehicle Test Engineer to join our Infrastructure Vehicle Mechanical Engineering group in our Newark, NJ office.

In this role, the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core mechanical engineering concepts.  Some experience working in the rail industry is a bonus. An FE registration is desirable but not required.
 
This position will report to the Resource Director, Vehicle Mechanical Engineering - Northeast

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Witness and monitor rail vehicle qualification tests conducted to validated vehicle and/or equipment performance against procedures and industry standards.
  • Review test procedures for specification compliance, technical content, and execution logistics. 
  • Prepare clear and concise daily / weekly/ monthly reports on test progress and key issues.
  • Assist with the conduct forensic investigation of failed tests under the direction of senior staff
  • Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients.
  • Prepare client ready technical briefs and presentations as directed by project leads.
  • Develop technical specifications for mechanical/ electro-mechanical, or electrical equipment.
  • Assist in the review design submittals, and the preparation of detailed review findings.
  • Provide engineering support as required.

 
Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Basic knowledge of rail vehicle system design requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to independently guide and work with others on technical issues.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, work well within a team, take direction from other senior staff members, the ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines.
  • Valid driver license (travel to various domestic and international sites required)

 

The following skills/experience are a plus:

  • Ability to use Dewesoft data analysis software.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation setup, function, and data collection.
  • Knowledge of data logging equipment and setup.
  • Microsoft Office software skills.

  • Coordination with other technicians/engineers on projects
  • Provide support to senior project engineers, client staff, and peers as and when needed.
