The Hatch Niagara Falls office specializes in renewable power with expertise in hydro , wind and solar projects. Our range of skills spans the entire life cycle, from planning to rehabilitation, and extending into due diligence reviews, asset valuations, asset maintenance planning and asset sustainment. Our expertise is applied to greenfield sites and rehabilitation of existing facilities. Our designs include surface and underground powerhouses, tunnels, dams (concrete, earth-fill and rock-fill types), spillways and water control structures which are often located in seismically active areas.

 

The Niagara Falls office has openings for intermediate civil/structural engineers with 5 to 10 years experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform designs of concrete dams, powerhouses, wind turbine foundations
  • Undertake dam safety investigations
  • Design and oversee implementation of rehabilitation of hydro facilities
  • Prepare investigation/design reports and present findings to clients
  • Oversee preparation of engineering drawings and seal drawings and design calculations
  • Reinforced concrete and steel design
  • Mentoring of EITs
  • Prepare cost estimates for engineering services and design implementation

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate in civil engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (or eligible for registration) in the Province of Ontario.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of programs such as AutoCad, MicroStation, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.
  • Proficiency in numerical analysis of structures, using programs such as STAAD.
  • Relevant experience in reinforced concrete and structural steel design using Canadian codes and standards.

 

The following qualifications would be considered assets

  • Experience working on conceptual and feasibility studies.
  • Familiarity with dam safety assessments, stability analysis and layout of hydroelectric facilities.
  • Experience in detailed structural design of hydroelectric structures.
  • Experience with Bentley software products
  • Experience with survey equipment and digital terrain modelling programs.
  • Field experience in construction.
  • Experience working with American and/or international codes and standards.
  • Masters Degree in civil engineering
  • Finite element experience with programs such as ANSYS, SAP2000,etc
