 Position Summary:

Hatch is currently seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineering or EIT for our Water Business Unit team located in the Oakville office in Ontario.


The Water Business Unit is comprised of a group of professional engineers, designers and technologists led by a management team and supported by the resources of other groups. We have experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of water and wastewater facilities throughout the world.  We are looking for young designers eager to be involved in complex small and large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects as well as, and able to demonstrate their keen problem-solving skills in developing practical solutions. The candidate must be a self-motivated individual capable of working both independently and within a team environment.

    • Work independently to apply engineering principles to perform calculations for building mechanical system design and piping system design of industrial buildings and processes.
    • Work collaboratively to share the results of your work with senior members of the discipline and / or other Hatch groups
    • Prepare load calculation, equipment selection, technical specification packages, construction work packages, or technical reports, to be checked by senior colleagues and used to support engineering documents to be used by internal and external stakeholders
    • Become knowledgeable of various mechanical system, calculation software and tools, piping systems and specifications, discipline workflows and execution, and other industrial components / processes you are assigned to assess
    • Participate in office and site safety training and inductions as needed to support office and site activities
    • Perform field verification and provide field support during construction.
    • Willingness and ability to travel and work in other Hatch offices or project work sites (including remote sites) as needs and opportunities arise

Education and Experience: 

    • Must be working towards graduating in 2022, or recently graduated (1-3 years), with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community
    • Previous relevant coop and summer work terms or internships in Building Mechanical (HVAC and plumbing) or Piping engineering is an asset
    • Academic or work experience with Mechanical software AFT Fathom, MathCAD, AutoCAD and Revit is an asset.
