We are currently seeking candidates for the following position:

 

Technical Specifications Writer

Location: Seattle, WA or Ambler, PA

 

Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated specification writer to work collaboratively with engineers to write/edit specifications that coordinate with drawings for construction or procurement contracts. Must have good technical writing, formatting, editing, and proofreading skills. Experience with Microsoft Word is required. While previous training in CSI specification writing conventions and CSI certification is preferred, it can be obtained after beginning of employment. Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

The ideal candidate will be motivated, qualified, with proven experience delivering technical documents in the transportation industry. While technical writing expertise is essential, it will be equally important to have superior interpersonal skills, as teamwork and client interaction will be required. Finally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity and commitment, trust, and the ability to follow through - areas critically important to the Hatch culture.

 

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Collaborate with engineers and clients in developing technical specification in compliance with CSI and other project-specific guidelines
  • Efficiently work to meet project deadlines and deliverables
  • Support the design of complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to close-out
  • Collaborate with design team members locally and remotely to accomplish design objectives
  • Provide support to other Hatch offices and regions in the development and delivery of work
  • Organize and maintain records of technical specifications and other documents, and apply change management processes to keep track of document revisions and change history
  • Develop and maintain professional team and client relationships through successful project performance and participation in industry activities.
  • Assist with other tasks as necessary

 

What you bring to the role:

  • While the ideal candidate will have Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or Architecture, other educational backgrounds, such as Legal, will be considered
  • Strong writing skills to draft technical documents in English
  • 5+ years of experience in the transportation, maritime, energy, aviation, or general construction industries
  • Expertise in developing contractual and technical documents, such as technical specifications, design criteria, technical notes and reports, and etc.
  • Experience in a variety of specialized infrastructure disciplines (e.g., transit, facilities, roads and bridges, IT and communications, traction and utility power, rail signal system interfaces, as well as MEP and vertical construction subsystems)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and clients (both written and orally)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Time management skills and the ability to adapt to change
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
