Hatch is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Automation Engineer with experience in metals (steel & aluminum), mining, water treatment or infrastructure. The Automation Engineer will work from the project site in Bowling Green, KY and is responsible for the research, development, design, and programming of equipment and systems. The Automation Engineer will also be responsible for tuning loops and working with the operations team to optimize equipment performance.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all work in a safe manner reflective of Hatch’s strong safety culture.
  • Responsible for PLC and HMI programming using Siemens Step 7, Function Block Diagram (FBD), Continuous Function Chart (CFC) and Scada programming during the commissioning and operations phases.
  • Requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to be applied in design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of process and software systems.
  • Work in an operating industrial environment with a willingness to work on-call or for outage support activities.
  • Follow project software change procedures.
  • Maintain and grow strong client relationships.
  • Work integrated in the client’s operations team fulfilling multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:

  • Demonstrated health and safety focus in the commissioning and operations phases of project delivery.
  • Engineering or Technician degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience with PLC and HMI programming using Siemens Step 7, FBD & CFC and WinCC SCADA.
  • Experience with Siemens Variable Speed Drives including load sharing and tension control.
  • High energy, self-motivated and directed. Candidate must work well in a blended team environment with a “can do” positive attitude.
  • Independently performs difficult programming tasks to completion that may include a variety of complex features, conflicting design requirements, unusual materials requirements, and the need to coordinate the work of others.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • This role requires travel to the project site subject to project requirements.
