Hatch, a global Engineering and Consulting Firm, is currently seeking a highly motivated Benefits Specialist to join our office in Pittsburgh.
This is a unique opportunity for a self-motivated individual who has a passion for benefits, details, problem-solving and helping others. You’ll use your project and people skills to manage all aspects of the administration of all U.S. employee benefit and leave programs.
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the organization’s health & welfare, retirement, and supplementary benefit programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. The role will provide exceptional customer service to employees, Human Resources, and work closely with third party benefit providers and consultants.
This position will be supporting and reporting to the HR Director for the US. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated, professional, and capable of managing their workload while prioritizing tasks in our fast-paced environment.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Administer U.S. employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans
- Lead and coordinate the annual open enrollment process
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other applicable U.S. regulations
- Maintain accurate benefit records and documentation in HRIS systems
- Conduct regular audits of benefit data and payroll deductions
- Reconcile benefit invoices and resolve discrepancies
- Manage relationships with benefits brokers, carriers, and consultants
- Educate employees on benefit offerings through presentations, guides, and one-on-one support
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits, eligibility, and claims
- Oversee leave of absence administration including FMLA, STD, LTD, and parental leave
- Collaborate with HR team on onboarding and offboarding benefit processes
- Process benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations in a timely manner
- Monitor and ensure completion of required compliance filings and reporting
- Document and improve procedures for benefits-related processes
- Recommend enhancements to benefit programs based on employee feedback and market trends
- Assist in evaluating and selecting benefit vendors and carriers
- Prepare and distribute benefit communications and policy updates
- Coordinate wellness initiatives and employee engagement activities related to benefits
- Analyze benefit utilization data to identify trends and opportunities
- Provide training and support to HR colleagues on benefit processes
- Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes affecting employee benefits
- Participate in cross-functional HR projects and initiatives
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
You bring to the role:
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. employee benefit plans and applicable legislation
- At least 10 years of experience administering benefit plans
- Bachelor's degree required
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, with a strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience with SAP and SuccessFactors (preferred but not required)
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- High level of accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external partners
- A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for contributing to team success
- Eagerness to take initiative and explore new ideas or process improvements
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

- Familiarity with HRIS systems and data integrity practices
