The Senior Site Planner / Scheduler develops and manages project schedules across all phases, ensuring alignment with scope, timelines, and objectives. This role analyzes performance, identifies risks or delays, and collaborates with project teams to keep work on track. They also support change management, report on progress, and provide guidance and mentorship to junior planners.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Developing detailed project schedules using standard coding and work breakdown structures, including AWP (advanced work packages)
  • Understanding project scope and identifying tasks/activities
  • Lead Integrated Planning Sessions (IPS)
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement and construction disciplines to gather scope and execution strategy inputs
  • Sequencing work packages/activities and developing network models
  • Estimating activities duration
  • Developing schedule development plans and basis of schedule
  • Establishing critical path and total project duration
  • Preparing Level 1, 2 and 3 project schedules by summarizing the detailed work schedules
  • Performing schedule control by analyzing critical path, planned value, earned value, schedule variance, schedule performance indices and schedule risk analysis, and recommending corrective actions
  • Supporting schedule risk assessment process and schedule contingency development by preparing simplified QRA schedules representing critical paths and near critical paths
  • Complete Schedule Review Checklists and attendance to schedule review meetings as required per governance level
  • Updating project schedules to reflect progress against project baseline and preparing management reports
  • Participate in the change management process with raising schedule deviations and schedule impacts to project changes

 

Must Have

 

  • In Depth understanding of the EPCM industry and practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of practices and procedures involved in the planning function, with a minimum of 15 years proven experience in the execution of complex projects in the metals sector; steel industry experience is preferred
  • Hands-on experience in planning and preparing logic diagrams, critical path networks and bar charts, with particular emphasis on detailed construction schedules
  • Ability to receive information from numerous sources, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • In depth experience with computer-based scheduling systems (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and other computerized applications related to the work is essential
  • Fully familiar with resource allocation and levelling techniques as well as earned value analysis
  • Must possess sound judgement; strong analytical and interpersonal skills, well developed organizational and administration skills, verbal and written communication skills
  • Tact and diplomacy required when helping and support regarding the preparation and analysis of project schedules
  • Ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to develop, coach and mentor a team of intermediate and junior planners

 

Core Competencies

 

  • Advanced project planning and scheduling (Level 1–3 schedules)
  • Strong knowledge of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedule logic
  • Expertise in critical path method (CPM) and network scheduling
  • Deep understanding of EPCM industry practices and project lifecycles
  • Experience across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Strong analytical skills, including earned value analysis (SPI, SV, etc.)
  • Ability to identify risks, delays, and recommend corrective actions
  • Experience with schedule control, forecasting, and performance tracking
  • Proficiency in scheduling systems (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project)
  • Knowledge of resource allocation and leveling techniques
