Hatch is currently looking for a Health & Safety summer student to assist with Health and Safety initiatives within Hatch's United States Region, and associated projects. The role will be based out of Pittsburgh, PA and will support as directed, the North American network of Hatch health and safety professionals and assist with the implementation of the Hatch Health and Safety Management System. The successful candidate must be adaptable, self-motivated, have the ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment, and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication.  


Responsibilities include: 

  •  Assist in promoting an active health and safety culture
  • Provide health and safety advice for staff and managers
  •  Assist in implementing the health and safety management systems and contribute to its continuous enhancement
  • Interface with field staff and support project site work as necessary
  • Provide administrative support
  • Promote effective communication and dissemination of relevant health and safety information
  • Coordinate health and safety training
  • Keep abreast of developments in health and safety legislation and practice, and act upon any changes accordingly
  • Prepare reports on health and safety

 

Qualifications: 

  • Actively pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health or a similar discipline
  • Understanding of worker safety standards and their applications, and a willingness to learn
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint...etc)
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Extracurricular involvement; enthusiastic and ambitious
  • Creative problem solving ability
  • Outward facing with good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with good organizational capability

  • Perform assignments related to your sector.
  • Assist with preparation of detailed design for projects.
  • Support preparation of drawings from detailed notes and specifications
  • Coordination with other technicians/engineers on projects
  • Provide support to Senior Engineers and Designers as and when needed.
