Accountant – Saudi Arabia
Role Summary
The accountant oversees end‑to‑end accounting, tax, and statutory compliance for the Saudi Arabian subsidiary of an engineering consulting group with up to 200 employees. The role supports both corporate finance and project operations, ensuring accurate financial records, compliant tax filings and alignment with group reporting standards. The position interacts with project managers, HR, procurement, external advisors, and the global/ regional finance team.
Core Responsibilities
Local Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Maintain the general ledger in accordance with SOCPA and internal accounting policies in SAP environment.
- Manage AP/AR, bank reconciliations, expense claims, vendor payments, fixed assets accounting and client invoicing.
- Support intercompany transactions, recharges
- Coordinate annual external audits, ensuring timely submission of audited financial statements.
Project Accounting & Operational Finance
- Ensure accurate and timely client billing, milestone invoicing, and revenue recognition aligned with project contracts.
- Assist in evaluating project profitability and supporting operational decision‑making.
Tax, Zakat & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with ZATCA requirements, including:
- VAT filings, reconciliations, and documentation
- Zakat calculations and annual returns
- Withholding tax filings for cross‑border services
- E‑invoicing (FATOORA) Phase 2 complianc3
- Respond to government queries or audits.
- Monitor regulatory changes and implement required updates to processes.
Payroll tax Compliance
- Manage GOSI registrations, monthly contributions, and employee status updates.
- Support HR with end‑of‑service benefit (EOSB) calculations and employee financial records.
- Ensure compliance with platforms such as Mudad, Qiwa, and GOSI.
Compliance, Governance & Internal Controls
- Implement and monitor internal controls aligned with group policies and project governance.
- Ensure timely renewals of commercial registration, municipality licenses, Chamber of Commerce membership, and other regulatory requirements.
Cross‑Functional & External Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, procurement, HR, and operations to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
- Liaise with banks, auditors, tax advisors, and government authorities.
- Provide financial insights and reports to local management and the global finance team.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience in Saudi Arabia, ideally in engineering, construction, or professional services.
- Strong knowledge of SOCPA, VAT, Zakat, and local compliance frameworks.
- Experience with project accounting, cost tracking, and client billing.
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems used in project‑based environments (e.g., SAP)
- Strong Excel skills and financial analysis capabilities.
- Fluency in English; Arabic
Preferred
- Professional certifications (SOCPA, CPA, CMA, ACCA).
- Experience in multinational or multi‑entity engineering or consulting firms.
- Familiarity with intercompany recharges, transfer pricing, and group reporting.
