Our industry leading Rail Vehicle and Operations team is adding a Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Consultant to our Vehicle and Operations Practice in our Seattle, WA ffice. However, we are open to this individual reporting to any of Hatch’s USA offices. This role will report to the Resource Director of Vehicle Mechanical Engineering. As an influential member of our engineering team, you will work on the challenges facing our clients as they modernize and maintain critical passenger rail assets.  

 

You bring to the role: 

  • A minimum of 10 years of fire protection engineering or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably with a focus on Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A desire to work with a team, or in a lead role in a client centered environment.
  • A knack for multi-tasking and handling a variety of work assignments under deadlines.
  • Must have knowledge of fire protection on electric, hydrogen, diesel, compressed natural gas, and gasoline vehicles and related infrastructure.
  • Familiarity or Knowledge of UL9540, NFPA 2, 30, 30A, 70, 130 and 230 and other related international standards is desired.
  • Professional Engineering License is desired, but not required.
  • Experience as a fire fighter is preferred.
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or equivalent certification is desired.

 

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Solve client problems through design efforts
  • Shape the outcome of solution through design reviews of submittals from vendors,
  • Contribute to technical working sessions to solve problems raised by clients
  • Support bus and rail vehicle projects in the context of fire protection and prevention engineering.
  • Support transit infrastructure and system projects in the context of fire protection and prevention engineering.
  • Review flammability, smoke emission and toxicity reports.
  • Review design and construction information for compliance with regulatory requirements and local codes.
  • Assist with the conduct forensic investigation of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff
  • Develop technical specifications for fire protection and prevention of buses and rail vehicles and related infrastructure.
  • Conduct training on fire safety, mitigation and related technologies.
  • Be a key resource supporting your teammates.

Average Base Compensation: $110,000 - $165,000  (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
