Key Role

 

The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that environmental aspects of the Project are managed in full compliance with contractual obligations, Zambian environmental and mining regulations, the client’s environmental policy and procedures, and providing support on ISO 14001: 2015 compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

    • Monitor and enforce compliance with Zambia’s mining and environmental regulations and the client’s environmental permit and licences.
    • Implement the Construction Environmental Management Plan on site.
    • Implementation of environmental policies, procedures and standards.
    • Provide support on ISO 14001: 2015 compliance.
    • Conduct regular inspections of the construction site to ensure environmental compliance and report deviations or non-compliance issues promptly.
    • Oversee environmental auditing and reporting of contractors on site, including the implementation of corrective actions for non-conformances.
    • Provide support on root-cause analysis of non-conformances on site.
    • Provide support on training and awareness programs for site personnel on environmental responsibilities and best practices.

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental management and environmental compliance auditing in the mining sector.
  • Proven experience with ISO 14001: 2015 implementation and auditing.
  • Well versed with Zambian environmental legislation and knowledge of international standards (IFC, Equator Principles).

 

 

Key skills/ attributes

 

  • Computer literate (MS office package).
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work in remote locations and under challenging conditions.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills in areas of both written and verbal communication.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Valid drivers licence.
