Dynamic Earth Solutions (DES) specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.
Intermediate Civil Designer
Hatch's Dynamic Earth Solution Group (DES) is looking for am Intermediate Civil Designer to join in our team in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Lead you will support projects locally and globally.
The successful candidate will work with Civil Engineers and fellow designers in various design activities involving site preparation, grading, drainage, roads, paving, etc. for mining, heavy industrial, rail projects and more.

Responsibilities:
As an Intermediate Civil Designer, you will be required to provide engineering deliverables and technical Support. The main duties and responsibilities as part of this position include:

Design overall Earthworks for diverse projects
-
Design access roads for mining, energy, and infrastructure related facilities
-
Design/Model drainage and stormwater management systems
-
Design/Model site grading
-
2D drafting and 3D Model preparation / drawing production
-
Work in close collaboration/coordination with other disciplines such as structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical etc.

Perform conceptual layout work
-
Develop design details
-
Check drawings prior to release
-
Coordinate and review clash detection of models with other discipline models
-
Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
-
Be responsible for construction supervision dependent upon project demands

Incorporate safety in design
You bring to the role:
-
Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from an Accredited College
-
Minimum 5+ years' experience in a similar role
-
Civil 3D modelling experience
-
Experience in civil infrastructure, site planning, linear alignment design
-
Strong design software skills including demonstrated experience with Civil 3D and AutoCAD, Revit, InRoads, Microstation, OpenRoads, ProjectWise and Microsoft Office.

Work experience in completing design assignments for linear infrastructure projects and mine sites. Including site grading, drainage, trenching, and earthworks.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed

Thorough understanding of inter-discipline requirements

Ability to work in a team-environment

Willing to mentor junior staff

Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project and good safety awareness.
