Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer to join our Vehicle Electrical Engineering team. This role is ideal for an experienced electrical engineering professional with strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and deep technical capability. You will bring 7+ years of engineering experience, including at least five years in the rail or transit sector, with solid knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and rail vehicle systems.
In this role, you will work across heavy rail, light rail and freight fleets, supporting design, testing and performance investigations of train systems. This is a great opportunity to shape impactful rail projects while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and professional practice.
What you’ll do
- Support rail system testing, investigations and performance assessments
- Develop and review specifications, designs and electrical documentation
- Design and implement electrical and subsystem upgrades for rail vehicles
- Assist clients with asset management, reliability analysis and maintenance planning
- Define system requirements and manage engineering deliverables aligned to scope, cost and schedule
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and participate in project meetings
- Ensure all work complies with relevant safety, technical and quality standards
- Contribute to project procedures and continuous improvement across design activities
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 7+ years’ engineering experience, including 5+ years in rail or transit
- Strong understanding of core electrical engineering concepts, with expertise in areas such as power engineering, communications, control systems, motor theory or circuit design
- Specialist knowledge of rail vehicle systems (traction power, TCMS, communications)
- Strong planning, delivery and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and build strong client relationships
- Leadership capability and a commitment to high-quality, safe engineering practice
- Chartered Engineer status (CPEng or NER) is advantageous—or you are eligible and willing to work towards it
- Experience managing engineering projects, budgets or multidisciplinary teams is beneficial
- Exposure to engineering services sales or business development is an added advantage
