Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Rail Vehicle Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Australian Infrastructure sector in the Vehicle Electrical Engineering group.
As the successful candidate, you will:
- Demonstrated engineering experience across heavy rail, light rail, or freight rollingstock in Australia, including test planning and execution, technical specification development, design review, subsystem upgrades, and asset management support.
- Develop and maintain a clear understanding of project scope, cost, schedule, and system requirements, ensuring delivery objectives are met.
- Prepare, review, and approve electrical engineering deliverables such as specifications, datasheets, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary engineering teams to deliver rail vehicle projects effectively.
- Act as a client-facing lead, proactively managing communication, progress updates, and issue resolution while upholding Hatch’s reputation.
- Maintain and control scope of work documentation throughout the design lifecycle.
- Ensure engineering quality through audits, compliance with project procedures, and adherence to QA plans.
- Promote ethical, professional engineering practices and ensure compliance with all relevant technical and safety standards.
You bring to the role:
The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 15 years’ professional experience, with strong grounding in core electrical engineering principles and deep expertise in one or more specialist areas such as power engineering, control systems, EMC, communications, motor theory, or software development. Candidates must bring specialist knowledge of rail vehicles and systems, including traction power, train control and management systems, and communications. A strong focus on high‑quality deliverables, effective work planning, and collaboration across disciplines is essential, alongside proven leadership capability and well‑developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. The role is client‑facing and requires a client‑centric mindset, with the ability to build long‑term partnerships, identify new business opportunities, and prepare high‑quality proposals to win work. Chartered Engineer status (CPEng or NER) is desirable but not mandatory, however candidates must be eligible and willing to work towards chartership. Experience managing engineering projects, budgets, multi‑disciplinary teams, and contributing to engineering services sales and business development is also highly regarded.
