Hatch is seeking an experienced Lead Process Engineer/Consultant with expertise in phosphates, including the design and/or operation of phosphoric acid plants, phosphate granulation facilities, infrastructure, and utilities. This role is integral to our engineering team, providing both technical services and field support. The successful candidate will coordinate and guide the process engineering team, ensuring deliverables meet project scope, schedule, budget, and Hatch’s quality standards. They will develop innovative solutions across all areas of the process plant, including systems, unit operations, and process equipment, while collaborating with other engineering disciplines to maintain process integrity throughout the design lifecycle. 

 

In addition to technical leadership, this position requires strong business acumen in the phosphates industry and a passion for driving business growth. The Lead Process Engineer/Consultant will work closely with the Global Director of Phosphates, partnering with clients and industry professionals to build strategic relationships and deliver solutions that address some of the world’s toughest challenges.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Possess a strong understanding of phosphate plant processes, including phosphoric acid and granulation operations, with the ability to engage clients on potential projects and plant improvements.
  • Drive business development initiatives in the phosphates sector by preparing proposals, developing commercial agreements, and overseeing project implementation.
  • Provide leadership in process engineering for scoping and pre-feasibility studies, managing scope, schedule, and budget for the process engineering team.
  • Coordinate and guide the process engineering team to deliver high-quality process engineering outputs that meet project requirements.
  • Oversee the development of process engineering deliverables, including test work definition, design basis and criteria, mass and energy balances, capacity and trade-off studies, equipment and engineering calculations, piping and instrumentation diagrams, process control logic, and operating and capital cost estimates.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and internal disciplines to ensure effective communication and alignment with process objectives throughout the project lifecycle.
  • General knowledge of phosphate mining and beneficiation is considered an asset.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Florida preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of process engineering experience in plant operations or engineering consulting/contracting organizations.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships, generate new business, resolve complex issues, and consistently exceed client expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives.
  • Ability to raise Hatch’s profile within the industry through participation in panel reviews, regional competitions, and industry publications.
  • Significant experience in engineering planning and execution within the process engineering discipline.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams to achieve quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a strong client focus.
  • Technical expertise in process technologies relevant to phosphate projects.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Hatch’s Global Center of Excellence in Tampa, Florida.

 

This position reports to the Global Director, Phosphates.

 

Salary is commensurate with experience.
