Summary:  

Hatch is seeking a Highways and Bridges New Graduate with interest in civil/transportation engineering. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer of Highways and Bridges in Municipal Infrastructure you will support offices globally working from our Thunder Bay office.

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform project delivery assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering task for infrastructure projects (Roads, Drainage,Utilities, Municipal Services, etc); 
  • Coordination with other technicians and related disciplines to produce design deliverables (3D models, 2D drawings); 
  • Compilation of design drawings in accordance with Hatch/Client standards; 
  • Preparing design submissions (drawings, specifications, material take-off) and other technical documents; 
  • Assistance of Senior Engineers and Designers as and when needed. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering to graduate in 2023 or recently graduated from an accredited University; 
  • In good academic standing; 
  • Interested in civil engineering as a career; 
  • Extracurricular involvement is considered an asset; 
  • Experience with municipal infrastructure, geotechnical field work, and construction is an asset; 
  • Experience in development of project layout and civil details. 
     

Competencies (knowledge, skill, attributes): 

  • Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects  
  • Knowledge of road design stantards (TAC, MTO) is considered an asset
  • Ability to prepare conceptual designs using a combination of civil design software (Civil 3D and/or InRoads/OpenRoads) as appropriate
  • Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges  
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges 
  • Highly motivated, with a positive attitude and an ability to understand innovation
  • Adapts and embraces change
