To support the growth of our Thunder Bay office, we are seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field survey crews supporting transportation, iprojects across Northern Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing field surveys, ensuring data quality, maintaining safety standards, and coordinating with project managers, engineers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise survey crews on construction, transportation, and land development projects.
- Conduct and oversee topographic, legal, construction layout, as-built, and deformation surveys.
- Operate survey equipment including GPS/GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, and digital levels.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of field measurements and survey data.
- Coordinate daily field activities, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Maintain survey equipment and perform routine calibration checks.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients regarding survey requirements.
- Prepare field notes, reports, and documentation.
- Mentor and train junior surveyors and survey assistants.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of field surveying experience, including experience leading survey crews.
- Strong proficiency with GPS/GNSS, total stations, and survey data collection software.
- Experience supporting transportation, municipal, infrastructure, or construction projects.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Leica, Trimble, or Topcon survey equipment.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and survey data processing software.
- Familiarity with Ontario construction and transportation projects.
- Experience working in remote and challenging field environments.
Pay range: $65,000 to $94,000

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
