We are actively seeking to hire a motivated and experienced Design Manager for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) based in Vancouver, BC responsible for providing technical leadership and managing a variety of small to large-scale high-profile public structural engineering projects, focusing on the design and delivery of bridges, overpasses, and related infrastructure.
The role would be client-facing and require coordination and management of both business development and project specific activities. The successful candidate will lead the Practice in the North-West region and share our vision of growing the business and be able to develop and articulate a plan to shape a team suitable for our target markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide design leadership for BRT, Roads, and Civil projects in BC and Alberta, supporting practice growth and strategic initiatives
- Oversee a portfolio of BRT and transportation corridor projects, ensuring delivery on quality, scope, schedule, budget, and risk
- Lead and coordinate the planning and design of BRT corridors, including roadway, transit priority measures, structures, and multidisciplinary interfaces
- Manage team performance, including resource planning, workload management, financial oversight, and staff development
- Collaborate with internal disciplines and external partners to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions
- Act as Engineer of Record (EOR), providing review and approval of designs, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, agencies, contractors, and stakeholders, supporting successful project outcomes
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and quality management processes
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- P.Eng. (EGBC or APEGA) or eligibility for registration; multi-province registration is an asset
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in transportation and civil engineering, with a focus on urban corridors, BRT, and roadway design and project delivery
- Demonstrated experience with municipal and highway design standards, including delivery of complex corridor and infrastructure projects
- Strong experience in the planning and design of BRT or transit-priority projects, including integration of roadway, structures, utilities, and active transportation elements
- Proven track record in project and design management, including oversight of scope, schedule, budget, and risk
- Solid understanding of business development, market trends, and client relationship management
- Experience acting in a technical leadership role (e.g., design lead or EOR), including review and approval of designs, reports, and specifications
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to clients, agencies, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on commitments
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with evolving priorities and deadlines.
