Are you ready for your next challenge? Hatch continues to expand its Smart Grid team advising utilities on the impacts of grid modernization, digital utility solutions, electrification, advanced grid operations, microgrids, and distribution system design. The increased electrification of transportation and heating solutions is creating uncertainty in utility planning and will require changes to system design, capital planning, protection & control, monitoring, and solutions to overcome other operational challenges. Concurrently, fleet, municipal, transit, and rail vehicles are also electrifying requiring additional planning & design, creative solutions to manage feeder and grid-level demand, and likely new business models. Incorporating DERs such as solar and battery storage are becoming linked to large scale electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Technological advancements (e.g. Vehicle-to-building/grid, smart invertors, new batteries, utility control of smart chargers, and communication system advancements) will play a critical role in supporting grid reliability as electrification increases. Hatch’s Grid Electrification team focuses on helping clients resolve all these challenges supporting utilities and large fleet owners with gap assessments, multi-year roadmaps, business case developments for specific initiatives, specification & requirements creation, technology evaluations, and entire program and advanced technology execution, including engineering design and project management. The team works alongside, and draws expertise from, the Grid Modernization, Advanced Grid Operations, Digital Utility Services, Hybrid Power, and T&D Design teams.
