Position Summary:
Hatch is seeking a Mechanical Intermediate EIT with an interest in hydro power to support projects within BC as well as globally while working from the Vancouver office. Working closely with our senior engineers and designers in our water power business, your primary role will be to act as a technical resource on challenging projects. You will apply analytical, conceptual, research, and planning skills to design systems for installation, including penstocks, hydraulic gates, mechanical operating systems (balance of plant), and turbine generators.
The position will allow the candidate to directly apply and develop their knowledge in mechanical design, stress analysis and hydraulic system design. The candidate will be exposed to modern design tools, including 3D solid modeling and complex calculation software. As time progresses, project duties and responsibilities will increase, facilitating registration of the candidate as a professional engineer.
There will be opportunities for travel and work assignments in Canadian site locations. Newly hired engineers will be assigned to work closely with experienced engineers who will provide guidance and mentoring.

Responsibilities:

Work independently applying engineering principles to perform calculations for hydro-mechanical equipment design to support the maintenance, expansion and construction of hydro projects.

Work collaboratively to share the results of your work with senior members of the discipline and communicate design considerations to other discipline groups.

Participating in site evaluations and data collection
-
Undertaking design/specification and detailed design of mechanical systems and materials

Technical selection, calculations, sizing and evaluation of equipment
-
Become knowledgeable of various mechanical equipment, analytical software and tools, specifications, discipline workflows and execution, and other components / processes you are assigned to assess

Participate in office and site safety training and inductions as needed to support office and site activities

Willingness and ability to travel and work in other Hatch offices or project work sites (including remote sites) as needs and opportunities arise
Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and registered or eligible for registration with EGBC. Willingness to register for PE (USA) is an asset.

2-5 years of experience working as a Mechanical EIT. Relevant experience working in hydropower, machine design, piping or pressure vessels, finite element analysis or a related field is an asset.

Academic or work experience with Mechanical software AFT Fathom/Arrow, NASTRAN, Ansys, MathCAD, and Autodesk Inventor or other 3D Parametric CAD software is an asset.

Base salary range: $76,000 - $100,000
At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.
Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
